ATB, stuck shed

This is the first time one of my snakes has had a serious problem shedding. He doesn't like handling a lot. He only got the shed off his head. Can I soak a tree boa in a sterlite? I tried wiping his head this morning with a wet microfiber rag, and he got his teeth stuck in it for a few seconds...Thanks.

Joe, you got anyway to increase humidity in the cage he is in now? What I did with mine was turn up the heat a little (UTH) and then I just poured some water directly on the substrate. Not to make it soupy, but enough to make it pretty wet. Then I covered the top of the cage and it took humidity up to 98%. left it that way for a day. Took care of the shed without me even having to touch him. So then I removed the cover off the top and allowed the moisture to evaporate and humidity returned to normal in 2 days, and I cut the heat back to normal. Just got to be careful with the heat level, but the moisture seems to help that.

Happened with Poe once too. And we all know how he feels about handling.

I soaked him in a sterlite tub for around 30min-45min and then I let him run through a towel. When I didn't have hold of him behind the neck and the shed was lower on the body I gave him a warm bit of the towel to chew on.

Worked like a charm, beautiful boy, no bites, cranky as ever.

Re: ATB, stuck shed

Well I finally got him to let go of his log today. He didn't mind being held at all!!!!! I have him in a tub with a lot of wet rags, and about 1/2" of water in it. He's on my heated water bed, so he should stay warm enough. Can I leave him in there for a couple of hours? I'm hoping that will soften up the skin a little, and he or I will be able to remove it. Thoughts???

Thanks.

Re: ATB, stuck shed

He might try himself. The longest I've ever left a snake in a tub was 3 hours but there were 30min breaks inbetween each hour.

Next time you have this issue pop a liquid vitamin E pill in the water: it helps TREMENDOUSLY.

Re: ATB, stuck shed

It's starting to loosen up and coming off in pieces. He only gets upset if I get get too carried away trying to get the remaining skin off his head and neck. Then he opened his mouth, but didn't strike at me.
