Help gestation question...

I recently bought a cook's tree boa from my local pet store as a valentines day present for my fiance. The exciting part was the good chance that the male cook's that she was with got her pregnant. Can anyone tell me how long amazons usually take to have their offspring? I have tried looking at different sites and they all say different things, it is quite frustrating.

Re: gestation question...

First off, it's not a Cook's. Hope you didn't pay a lot for it. Either the pet store was misinformed or they are trying to pull a fast one... Before you ask why, it's because Cook's are few and far between in private collections. What you have, my friend, is an Amazon.

That being said, gestation is a very, very long time. Several months, in fact. Put into perspective, our female was bred in late 05 and didn't drop her babies until Oct 31, 2006.

Re: gestation question...

I was going to say, you probably have an Amazon...but Ldydragon beat me to it. Odds are they weren't keeping her well enough to have a breeding take place, given that they don't even know what kind of snake they're selling you...but good luck anyway.

Re: gestation question...

Yup I agree with LadyDragon, it's not a Cooks. Unless it was a couple hundred dollars and puke brown (or gray) colored.

My female Amazon was breed last year around January and February. She didn't give birth until September 9th. So yes it takes a very long time to gestate.

Re: gestation question...

Absolutely not a Cooks...even if it was brown or gray. It's a garden phase amazon. You'd have almost no chance of ever coming across a true Cook's especially at a pet store. Amazons take from 120-160 after ovulation. The earliest anyone has posted was 108 after ovulation.
