Hey you Chondro aficionados. What's a Chondro like this worth?
She is owned by a friend of mine and he is wondering what something like this might be worth. He bought her as a yellow neonate about three months old at the time. Here is a description of her.
This Biak Island Female was received via captive breeding from the Tulsa zoo in December of 1991. Her serial number is #10609. The animal has maintained an overall yellow coloration throughout its life until just a few years ago. When cooler or recently fed, this animal which already sports a light olive color on its dorsum will become darker in that area. When the reverse is true, she is much lighter. The pure yellow areas and flecks do not darken at any point. The animal has been bred one time in its life and via one breeding attempt. 1995 she threw 15 eggs, 9 fertile and approximately 6 hatched. The sire was an imported, LTC Biak Male. The animal has been fed appropriate sized meals during its life and did not fully discontinue feeding when gravid. The animal has never regurgitated or shown any signs of illness in any form ever. This is a grade A animal with a lot of breeding potential.
Any info regarding the value of a Chondro like this or babies from a female like this would be great.
Thanks,
Jeff Ronne

I would check the Ophiological services website ( I dont remember the URL)
but I wouldnt be suprised if someone paid about 1K for her.
Ones that retain high amounts of yellow seem to be in demand for those working with
high yellow, different colors,
it definately ISNT normal, although Biak's tend to have a more unusual pattern, and some retain more yellow than other locales.
Good luck to him, hope he finds out what he needs to know.

There is a buyer somewhere out there for every market. What she is worth is what someone is willing to pay...I doubt she would bring over 2000 I have seen high yellow Biaks PRICED for as high as 3500 but I've never seen any actually sell for that much. but it is possible I guess that they have. The lower the start price the broader the market and of course the faster she will sell or at least the faster you will get reasonable offers. So what you have to decide is this....price high and wait and wait for a buyer willing to spend that much...or price her for a quicker sale. It will depend on your reasons for selling I guess. Personally, I can't justify anything over 1000 - 1200 for her and since I probably wouldn't breed and would just want her for a pet...I would probably cap off at more like 600.....but That's me. I'm cheap when it isn't a breeding investment.
Babies. Hard to prove what color a baby will be.. and it's ususally more lucrative to sell the babies on off fairly quick rather than feeding, medicating etc for long periods of time. I would price babies at 6-800 and let em go. While high yellow Biaks are desirable...they aren't all that rare. I would be a little afraid of how long the market will hold up to keep too many babies for too long if intentions are to breed and sell.
another note....she really isn't all that "High Yellow" Her green just seems to be really pale....some kinda hypo sorta thing going on?
