Large branch for Ab cage

Hey All,

I have been looking everywhere online for a large stump or tree branch for an arboreal cage. Do any of you have a resource for these? It will go into an arboreal cage that is 24in high. I am looking for something that can go in there and provide adequate height.

Any ideas?

thank you!

I will never cease to be amazed at the quality driftwood I see when I'm on the river. Then I go to the stores and wish I could afford what's there. If I was smart(and you too) just go down to a river or creek or stream and get some. Your wallet will thank you and you'll get a piece that you choose.

Re: Large branch for Ab cage

lllreptile.com has some pretty nice ones. But ordering online is a gamble because you don't get to "see" what you purchase.

Re: Large branch for Ab cage

You could also use PVC. Just burn up PVC and wash it. It will look excellent, cost under 10 dollars for a very complex tree system out of everything from 2" to 1/2" PVC.

Re: Large branch for Ab cage

yep, PVC is a great choice.........or if you have the time, you can get some dowels and cut them to the desired size, and coat them with a sealer. Of course allowing for appropriate curing time.....

Re: Large branch for Ab cage

I usually walk the river or lakeside after a rainfall.
I've found quite a few interesting pieces of driftwood that way.

Just make sure you clean it up nicely.

Re: Large branch for Ab cage

It depends on the arboreal. Emeralds like fairly straight, level branches. ATBs, I believe, prefer areas that fork to rest on. I prefer burnt pvc as it is much easier to clean. Even if you seal wood a spot can be missed that will allow moisture in and possibly begin the mold process.

A very smart idea is to make all perches removable. Less stress on the snake and keeper when you remove the snake from the cage. Probably will reduce the number of bites as well. I have received "0" bites when removing our emeralds on their perch.

Re: Large branch for Ab cage

Thanks a lot everyone! Some good ideas in there. I have a PVC and just wanted something else too.

BTW, The snake is a large Candoia Bibroni australis.

Re: Large branch for Ab cage

Driftwood is great, you can pick your own size and shapes, if you can get it nearby.

Jamaica - No Problem.
