These two neos would not stay on thier pvc perches when we moved them to bigger cages. They just hung out on the elevated water bowls. My wife, Karen, decided to try a suggestion by Alex McVicker from corallus, take a butane torch to the pvc to scortch it and shape it! The two neos were back on the pvc the next day and have been ever since. You can see from the pics that the burnt pvc has the look and texture of real wood.

cool! i just bought a bird cage that came with no perch so I made one from pvc...I roughed and gouged it up with a bench grinder for a similar effect and was thinking of doing the same for my arboreals.....but....I think I like your idea better. It looks great Thanks Craig.

I think I remember reading that post, something about the Northern Location emeralds really needing a "naturalistic" enviroment as supposed to the steral ones a lot of us use. Whatever works right... I use some fiberglass perches from habitat systems that my snakes seem to love and I can disifect them really easily... another possibility for you in the future.

Where do you get butane torches from? What's the website for Habitat Systems?

The torches you can get at pretty much any hardware store. They are about 12-15 dollars and are really easy to use. just dont burn your house down. Oh and make sure you do it in a WELL ventilated area. The fumes given off from burning PVC are toxic.
