My adult emeralds are a pair of males, but that has become good news
Well I just recently found out that my pair of emeralds was a 2.0 instead of the 1.1 that I was told they were. I was very disappointed until the friend that sexed them for me said that he had 2 big females that were ovulating and that he had no males to pair them up with. So after some talking we dicided to bring the girls over. The cage that my males are in is way big enough for multiple emeralds so we now have a small colony going in there.
I had not planned on breeding mine until at least next season so had not even thought about checking on their sex. I had just taken the word of the person I got them from. What was I thinking?!
But all is well that ends well I guess. Both of mine are nice big males and I am hopeful that there will be babies this coming spring.
The picture of the single emerald is one of the females. She is enormous, with the attitude to back it up I assure you.
And before anyone asks, that is a big humidifier in the cage with them and it is working quite well at keeping the humidity up in the 80% range. And if they poop on it I don't care because it comes appart easily and is made to be wet anyhow, it is a humidifier!

Cool snakes man, I'd like to get an emerald one day. What's it like getting bit by those bad boys?

Front teeth are a bit over an inch or right around an inch ...top and bottom and they gradually get smaller towards the rear. They have a mouth full of teeth. Living in the tree tops waiting for a meal to come by, they need these teeth to grab and secure prey. A missed opertunity might cost several weeks of no eating. It was long thought and presumed that they use them to snatch birds out of the air as they fly by. This really makes no sense though once you notice just how nocturnal they are and consider that the birds they may have flying by at night are likely going to be owls which would more than likely win any confrontation from even the biggest of emeralds. They mainly live off of rice rats in the wild (arboreal rat) and it's interesting to watch them dangle upside down and walk the rat up inch by inch with their teeth. They have a pretty cool way of using the teeth like fingers to pull this off. I would agree with louise that it's the worst nonven bite you can get if comparing same size snakes. Emeralds have a tendancy to bite down hard and gnash their teeth in deep with more jaw pressure than you expect from a snake bite. An adult anaconda, scrub python, asian or african rock python though would undoubtably do more damage though and then you have to still look forward to be constricted to death.
Good luck with your breeding David. If they breed now though, it may be early summer before you see any little orange wigglers drop. They have a pretty long gestation.

Yea, I know it will take a while for the emeralds. I don't know why I put "spring" in there. I keep thinking BCI, and I need to change my mind set if you know what I mean.
As for teeth, I can attest to the fact that I DON'T want to get bitten by that huge female, or any of the others for that matter. Last weekend I was bitten by 2 different BCI's, a small burm and got my hand ripped open by a female Bimini boa of about 4ft.
AND just 2 days ago I got bit in the thumb by my 18" emerald female and she hit the bone with her teeth and it really hurt bad for an hour which is unusual for me since a normal adult boa bite only bothers me for 10 minutes or so. So I am very sure that I don't want any of the adults to get ahold of me. I just leave them alone unless there is a health emergency. I can easily spot clean the mulch when they poop and can change the big water tub too without bothering them.

Here's a oldie but goody. This is a tooth from one of my old Emeralds she was a little over 5 feet at the time. Good luck with the pairings hope to see a bunch of babies next year.
