Now that i have a bit more experience under my belt i am giving more serious thought to getting a
GTP. They are just such gorgeous snakes! Initially i had set out to get one and was in the process of ordering one through a friends uncle, however i had to hesitate after i asked about whether they were CB and he pompously informed me (he has a lot of herp experience; mostly with venomous herps ;he has two cobras, two leucistic rat snakes, a snow corn, and a beardie) that there was no such thing as a CB
GTP and that what people referred to as CB were just gravid females that were WC and had the babies hatched in captivity. I knew this wasn't true (am i right?) so i decided not to get one through HIS breeder and started shopping around. I found a nice little reptile shop with VERY well cared for herps, and while there to talk to the owner about his breeder i saw the prettiest little jungle x diamond carpet python for $85...i asked to see him and the guy got him out on the stick he was perched on....he immiediatly started snapping at everything in sight and i fell in love lol. Anyway now that i have had Stryker for a while the
GTP bug is nibbling away at me again, but i have a few questions. First off, i will be building a cage for it, it's about 5 feet high by four feet wide by two feet deep, is that a big enough cage? And where can i find a non toxic way to water proof it? I went to lowes but all the stuff they have for water proofing decks and such seems like it would leach chemicals, so what can i use? And what price range am i looking at, i'm not loaded with money but i am willing to spend as much as i need to to get a healthy, CB animal. I have found them for as low as $280 but i hear that if they are that cheap it usually isnt a very healthy animal or else wild caught. Anyone know of any reputible breeeders that won't charge out the ear? Also, i have seem those little foggers that you can put in the water bowl and they send up a sort of dry ice-looking mist, would this be good for keeping humidity up, or would just misting be better? Also, how can i properly heat a tall cage like that? Obviously there will be a basking spot light at the top, but how can i get heat to the bottom without overheating the cage? Thanks in advance for any help!
