Just got the new neonate emerald home-Some pics
I just got back from picking up the new neonate emerald and snapped a few pictures of her real quick before leaving her to relax. She is not stress out at all and kept wanting to go exploring. She is in shed right now so she looks a little dingy, but she is a real beauty with a neat pattern. She was a little dried out from her trip so I have her a little misting with some semi-warm water which she enjoyed imensely. She just extended herself out into the mist and stayed there until I quit. I can tell already that she is going to be a real joy to have and I am looking forward to many years with her. When I picked her up he told me that she was a Suriname and Northern cross. Whatever she is I like her.

hehe Suriname is one of the locales of "Northern" so she's not exactly a cross. Pretty little snake. Congrats!
Here's a little something to take note of that you don't get to see often while watching snakes do their little snake things. Notice when she crawls around that her eyes are NOT fixed firmly in her sockets and they will move them around like more advanced animals do. Most snakes can't do this.

I understand about the locality, but there are some differences in the patterning on Suriname's and Guyana's(northerns). Only time will tell how her coloration goes. But as I said earlier, I was just passing on what he said and I like her no matter what locality her parents hail from.
I am worried about the wrinkling around her neck though. Is that normal? Maybe it is just because she is about to shed, but it kind of looks strange. She just recently ate her 4th meal so I don't think it is lack of food, and you can see that her mid section is nice and round.

I think the wrinkly skin around the neck is excess skin which will stretch to allow large food items through the skinny neck.

I don't know how long it will take her to shed El Nico. I just got her today and am not sure what stage of shed she is in. But I think she is trying to shed right now. I was just out watching her with my red lens light and she was rubbing on the zip ties that hold her little perch setup together. So hopefully she will shed soon if not tonight.
SNakes all differ as to how long it takes though. SOme will go into shed and stay that way for weeks while others can be done with the whole process in a matter of 4-5 days. Alot depends upon the species and growth rate during that period.

i notice my RTB does that slight sometimes, considering she herself as a personality she is a very curious and agile snake (even for a RTB) and i notice her eyes do move a bit also...
DButton thats an awesome snake. Congrats and best of luck with her in the future

She ate on the first try
Yay, she ate on the first try. And it was my wife that fed her. I am very proud of them both. Especially since that is the first snake my wife has ever fed. She had to hold the fuzzy mouse in front of the snake for almost 10 minutes while the snake smelled it all over and then finally took it. She didn't even jerk when the baby struck at the mouse. Now she is hooked! LOL!
A couple shots of the baby eating.
