What's the best starter tarantula or dose it not really matter what kind you get?

I agree with the above. Rosehairs have a more docile temperment and actually tolerate being handled. Good luck!

Rosy's are great starter T's and cheap too! But also in the
same family is the Grammastola pulchra (not sure of the common name)
they have the same temperment and size of the rose hair, but
are solid black in color. They are real shiny and soft feeling, almost
look like they are made out of velvit.

Pink toes, mexican red-knees, rose hairs...It does matter what you get. You wouldn't want to get a goliath bird-eater for a starter. I also hear that Baboons are very bad as beginners. Check your favorite search engine and search for tarantulas. There are a whole bunch of sites with cool info about them. Good luck in purchasing one!

Re: Good Starter Tarantula?

ShadowHunter, please do some reading on your proposed pet. Although Rosies are normally docile and slow(mine), I've read reports that some Rosies can be very erratic, ie defensive and aggressive. Keep the rosie dry, low humidity. Coco fiber is suggested nowadays for substrate. Do not feed it any wild caught insect. There are a number of arachnid sites that can help you further.

""Holy old thread Batman!!!"

L. parahybana usually isn't one I would recommend for a large beginner species... G. aureostriata would be my first.
And welcome to the site Zegok!

Re: Good Starter Tarantula?

The Mexican redleg tarantulas are among the best captive spiders of any size that I know of. Texas brown tarantulas are at least as tolerant and easy-going, if not moreso! but maybe not as 'flashy'
.
Hope that helps..
