Hey how is everyone?? My trip is awesome so far. Ive seen about 20 lizards but thats all. While we were at my house(my aunt and uncle where too). The house sitter said she killed 2 scorps! (Meany). WEll I was wondering.......where & when is the best time to catch scorpions around the house and outside?? I know to use a blacklight but after Bry(I think) posted his scorp babies i really want to catch one......and possibly buy one when i get home. Since i assume they are fairly easy to keep??
Thank you

Any time is good, you just have to know where to look. Don't bother with a black light, you have to be bumbling around in the dark for it to be any good. Not a smart thing to do around a habitat with venomous animals - and not just scorpions.

On your other comment - scorpions aren't just "easy to care for". There are dozens of species, all with different needs and precautions. Researching the needs of the species you plan to aquire before getting it would be a good idea.
And lastly, scorpions are venomous animals. Do NOT take them lightly. Many species in the pet trade have medically significant venom - which means they can screw you up good. There are several that are not considered to be dangerous to humans, but any species can be potentially life threatening if you are allergic to the venom. Its not a decision you should just go "Oh they're easy, I'm getting one." Think about it, consider the responsibility you will have to the lives of the people around you if you have a venomous pet... and again, do your research. Pick up a book. You know, small rectangular objects with words in them?

No I don't. I'm not bashing you or insulting you. The last time I responded with an honest answer I got the same "don't bash me" response from you.
Heck...I think it's great your asking before you get into them. Personally, I'm begging you not to rush head-long into buying or caring for a venomous animal. You getting killed by one of these animals would only hurt the herp community. Would your parents really agree to let you keep scorpions?
No offense man, but no person your age is mature enough to keep a venomous animal. That's like handing you a loaded gun and telling you to keep it in your room. That's not insulting you, it's a statement of fact.

Emperors, Desert Hairys, and Flat Rocks are all pretty decent "starter" scorpions. Their venom is not considered to be dangerous, but as I said above - it still can be.

Scorpions generally have incredibly long gestation periods. So its not uncommon for animals to either be wild collected, or just sit in pet stores with other scorpions and get impregnated... then later on down the road when someone buys, they get a little surprise a couple months later.
They do not need a mate to live, most scorpion species are actually solitary and scorpions will cannibalize if their conditions are not adequate for survival.
