That "cute bald spot" means she got angry at someone and kicked urticating hairs at them as a defense mechanism - watch your eyes! Read the link below for more info
Urticating Hairs
She's a beautiful spider tho, and her bum will once again be fuzzy again when she molts
Congrats on the new addition, I have one of these as well, I think they are one of the prettier T's

Re: New Mexican Red Knee
Keri nailed the bald spot.
I love these guys... I currently have 2.2 of them. I could sex it for you if you don't know for certain. You would have to get a clear belly shot between the first set of booklungs. These guys are super easy to sex.

Re: New Mexican Red Knee
I am pretty sure this one is a female. I always wash my hands after I have held her btw. I've had tarantulas before so this isn't something entirely new.

My mistake.
She's gorgeous - Are you going to name her?

Re: New Mexican Red Knee
Umm, since my 14 year old daughter is going to take her, I am going to let her name her. She had a Pink Toed Tarantula for years until it died. So when I got this one on a rescue, I knew it would be for her. It's much calmer than the Pink Toed. The ones I used to keep were from west Texas. Not exactly sure what they were.

Re: New Mexican Red Knee
I wouldn't have gotten her except for the fact somebody put her on PetCo's doorstep. Had to get a couple of mice (hate PetCo, but we were out) and there she was. Just dumped off. My gf also picked up a beautiful 9 year old Nic Boa male that got dropped off. He was a bit skinny, but he's eating great and we're fattening him up. I am surely not going to say no to animals like that in need.
The spider is as sweet as a spider can be and handles extremely well.
