The new kid in the house
Well, instead of the usual 2. 4 or 0 legs this one's got 8
My husband was going into the city for the day and I couldn't go so I asked him to bring me back a "tiny present" --- I guess this qualifies!! He's about maybe 2" across, a b. smithii, my first T. I used to take care of the one from Bio class for the summer when I was a kid but I have never owned one till now. He's very sweet I think he looks so soft! (I say "he" but I don't know the sex)
Any special hints and tips on these guys will be appreciated
I'm thinking of naming him something Mexican LOL

If I ever got a spider, it would be one of those. They are my favorite. Congrats!

Re: The new kid in the house
Very cute new addition.
I love this species. That's why I have 2.2 of them.
Looks like you have a nice little setup for it.
As for a name... I would go with something that is gender neutral IMO.
Good luck with the little squirt.

He's actually just in a big deli cup right now, with some cocofibre and a fake plant - I want to upgrade him to a kritter keeper or something but I read they can get their legs caught in the top? Is this true? S/he doesn't ever seem to hide but I'd like to put a cave in there so it has the option. I tried feeding it 2 nights in a row now, put a little cricket in there for like an hour or so and it didn't go for it so I took it out, I didn't want the cricket to turn on it.
I keep calling it Fuzzy in my head actually LOL - tho that isn't very Mexican it might stick

Re: The new kid in the house
The little guy is actually a little small to go into a KK.
You want the height of the cage to be no higher than 3 legspans high. You can put something in there for him to hide under, but the leaf will do for now if he can get under it.

I have a little 5" w by 8" long by 7" high kritter keeper (well, not that brand actually, it has a bow front) if I put 2" of cocofibre in would it be ok? I'll have to meature him but his legpan looks to be about 2" - I just worry about squishing his legs in the deli cup lid because he's usually up at the top.
I think it is like a small one of these Penn plax ones, I bought it a while ago just to transport something and the lable is gone

Re: The new kid in the house
I moved him to the new cage but I must have startled him when I opened up the old cage - he kicked off a patch of hair off of his lovely bum I feel bad now.
How often do they moult when they are young?
