What is this?
So, I was walking home from the store, and I went to kick what looked like a candy wrapper, but stopped short when I realized it was walking. So, naturally, I knelt down to get a better look. I've only seen a bug like this once before, but I still don't know what it is. So, I picked it up, and took it home for pictures.
Any of you know what this funky little critter is? When you blow gently on it, it points it's front feet menacingly at you, hisses like an angry cockatiel, and wiggles it's butt. XD
Thanks for looking!
Also - what do these little guys eat, if you know much about them? What a cool little critter!! ^.^

Re: What is this?
It's adorable. It's currently sitting next to my keyboard, licking it's feet.
I really want to know what it is. I see them only so rarely! ^.^

Is it a June bug??? I don't know exactly what they look like, but I know they're big and colorful. Idk what else it would be in OR... lol
Edit: nope, it's not. I just googled it, haha

Re: What is this?
I found it!
Actually, you were right. It's a ten-lined june bug. And, apparently is not long for this world. It's a male, and is in breeding mode, and once he's done his duty to his species he's going to die.
How sad. I let him go though. What interesting little critters.

Re: What is this?
Well let him loose and follow him to his mate and catch them both, and start breeding them.

Re: What is this?
lol, no....
According to the websites I'm reading, after the eggs hatch, they live in the soil eating tree roots for three years until maturing into a beetle, then they mate and die within 2 months. I don't think they'd make keen pets. XD

Re: What is this?
Hmm, are you still raising your feeder birds? They might like an extra snack.

Re: What is this?
Nah, feeder birds got the boot. They were cute for awhile, but there's only so much birdy suicide I can handle before I'm just tired of raising cat food. LOL

Re: What is this?
Yeah that's funny and all - but those things would seriously kill themselves. I lost 2-3 a week because they'd spook themselves, and break their own necks. Or decide they HAD to try to get to the bottom of their half-inch-deep water dish and drown themselves.
Those birds had no brains. At all. It was like... they're bodies functioned by magic, but inside their flimsy paper-mache skulls was nothing but shoe polish and feathers.
