This is a 2" juvie Brazilian Black tarantula, which is an excellent first invertebrate pet. Aggressive specimens are an exception, and most people have never heard of them. Quite a few of them won't kick hairs. To the best of my knowledge, there has also never been a bite report from this species. They are somewhat skittish when young, but usually grow out of it.

4? Red? What have you been smoking?
The legs look black to me in the pic, but, I should mention that young Brazilian Blacks are brown, and grow into the velvety pure black look of adults. This one is close to his full adult coloring, but I can see some slight brown coloring in his legs and abdomen.

Giz, I was looking into getting a desert species like an Aphnopelma or Brachypelma. Couldn't find an affordable one I liked. So, I came home with a Brachypelma albopilosum, which is a Honduran Curlyhair. I almost bought the baby desert hairy scorpion for $3, but I wanted a tarantula.
Barry, I do wish the pic was taken closer, but it was taken w/ a disposable camera. They don't take good close-up shots. I will someday though.
