Ok so i get this T from a good friend of mine about 8 to 9 months ago.. no prob he says its a Brazilian fire red, female and thats what it was sold to him as just that.. Ok so the first molt it was about 2 1/2 inches when i got it well it grew a whole 1 inch whoa ok so i now have a real fast growing T.. funny thing tho it sure dont look like a brazilian fire red.. well it eats like no tomarrow and takes more than 8 crickets a day for few weeks and then back to molting again.. well she then grew another inch this time she has wierd long bright yellow hairs all over her.. hmmm thats strange, she looks more like a curly hair now.. ok so we named her mystery T..ok so another few weeks go by and she eats like a starving pig, cant keep enough crickets in front of her face, shes always slammin them and chasing them down you can here her in the cage going after them..she goes into another molt grows even more than a inch this time,, her hairs are now a bright orangish yellow very long and a yellow boarder around her carapace, some very light striping on the knees, now im strating to wonder what in the world is she. man i have had to step up in housing size i dont know how many times with her.. lol!!! Ok still growing and eatting like shes stuffing for the holidays.. she goes into another molt and poof now shes a huge beast with more hairs and more color to her, her legs are really long.. now she looks like a brazilian salmon pink.. could be , nope i dont think so.. as time goes buy she molts again only to change more now her hairs are a gold color and her knees are more striped than befour.. wow we are up to a whopping7 inches. now her name is "Beast".. shes starting to out grow the size of a kingbaboon.. ok so we still cant figure out what the world she is, hybred? Something that was mislabled?? something new to the trade? who fricking knows... so anyways now that all this time has past she never seems to stop amazing me as now shes over the 8 inch mark and still growing and still eatting like "woman just dump the whole container of crickets in my lair".. she has to now be givin a much bigger home..she dont burrow and she dont climb the walls, she just sits at the opening of her hide house looking at me as if to say lady im gona keep on growing.. what she is i still dont know.. I am truely stumped on this crazy monster T.. I think shes now gona go into a display cage and be put out in the livingroom for all to see and watch.. Who in the world ever said Tarantulas are boring...

From your description, I'd say L. parahybana is probably a good guess.

Oddly enough, the Brazilian Fire Red's don't have much red on them. They're brownish, with yellow flecking... sometimes a bluish hue to the legs and a rusty color to the abdomen.
And growing that fast, I'd be willing to be 'she' is a he.

Rav.. what ever she maybe brazilian salmon pink or brazilian fire red, shes one of a kind in my collection and she is a she determend by molt sexing by the epigastric farrow.. also one thing you gota remember both these T's are terrestial and from rainforest forest type backgrounds so that is the reason why they grow at a very fast rate.. I had a slamon pink male that was fully mature with in 8 months.. now the salmon pinks get just a tad bit bigger than the brazilian fire reds but hey i dont know as i have seen ones that are supose to only grow like 10" and make it over the 11" mark ++.. It dont matter to me what she is as long as shes healthy and eatting well and i truly enjoy her.. I have a female salmon pink, and she's growing at about half that rate. Then again, I'm not feeding nearly that much either.

Hey Rav, tell me how do you have her set up, how much are you feeding her and whats the temp ya keep her at??? Just curious.. maybe it has something to do with the way we set them up but i do try to make sure she eats every week.. when i run out of crickets then i feed a rat pup to her... but shes not getting pushed with food she eats what she gets and sometimes i skip 5 days befour i feed her again.. I have a habit of feeding my T's all they will eat in one day.. then skip few days.. then theres the T's that get feed almost everyday. shes in a cage with real deep bedding of peatmoss mix and she has a log type hide house and a few fake plants, i only mist her cage once every 5 days when feeding, she has a water dish and her cage is kept at a temp of 75 to 78. she does not have high humidity in her cage..lighting consists of a 15watt plant grow light, and its not that bright at one end of her cage.. I set my T's up the best way i can and to get as close to there natural setting as possibal but i have found a lot of T's that are supose to have high humidity dont do well at all.. the only time they should really have that amount of humidity is when in molt.. could be something to do with my house as i do keep tons of house plants and they give off humidity... everyone keeps there T's diffrent so if they thrive for you then by all means keep up what you doing.. Could also be that i coat my prey items with a calcium vitamin powder and the T's have no prob with that..
Telefrag.. shes deffinatly not a goliath bird eater T. blondi..

I have mine set up similarly... semi-tall tank, 5 gallon... I use a type of BedOBeast as substrate because I don't like mucking with peat and soils. A few hidey holes, fake plants, and the like, but as with most Lasiodora - she doesn't hide much. I don't use supplimental lighting at all, or any extra heating unless it gets particularily cold in the house - so she's around 75-78 degrees. The humidity sits around 60%, I always keep a water dish, and I mist weekly. I feed weekly as well, a few crix. I don't generally give rodents until my spiders are full grown... and I never bother with calcium dusting for spiders - but I do gutload.
I haven't had a lot of luck with high humidity species either. They are much more sensitive to changes in their environment and unless you can set up something that is really going to be very stable they just don't do well. I've settled for mostly desert/semi-tropical species.
As always... what works for you is usually what is best.
