Re: Digging tunnels
If the legspan on the spider is at least 1 inch I can try to sex it on my microscope.

Re: Digging tunnels
I just got a Chilean rose hair for my girlfriend the other day. I wish I had known you had some available Reptscue! It's not a spiderling, it's about 1" body and about 2" overall (rough guess).
So about digging tunnels I've read some websites saying they don't exhibit this behavior in captivity, is that right? Since Joe's does could it be because the substrate is really deep? I'd really like to see it dig tunnels cause to me that's the cool part of having a spider! Any suggestions on how to get it to start digging?
Oh and semi-related, do they like small tight spaces like snakes as far as hides go?

Re: Digging tunnels
I shaved a brick of Eco-Earth into a very fine substrate. I had to make it deep because all I had was a relatively deep container. I'm glad it worked out this way because it'd kind of cool to see.

Re: Digging tunnels
Thank you !
That's ok... right now I only have one sibling left to Joe's and Louise's T. I don't mind keeping him/her for a bit to watch how they all are growing....
I did just recently breed one of my adult females, so, hopefully soon I'll have a ton more....
Ya know that Ts are like potato chips, ya just can't have one.

Re: Digging tunnels
The little one's seem to like to burrow, but none of my adults do... They just use their hides.

That's what I used to set up her tank. It's a thin layer about 1-1.5" depth. I kept it dry and didn't add any water.

Re: Digging tunnels
Vex... If your cage is more than three leg spans high, it is too high. Just throw more substrate in and (s)he'll love it!
Terrestrial species can fall and hurt themselves very easily.
Oh and are you using a water bowl??

Thanks for the help and sorry for the hijack! It's a 5 gallon cage. So maybe we should add some more substrate. Yes she's using a very shallow water bowl. I heard about placing stones/pebbles to keep them from drowning but haven't told her about it yet. She's been doing 90% of the research on spiders so she's followed advice found on the internet. Definitely heard the part about them being very fragile! And not to crowd the cage with stuff.
