OK, y'all are way too quiet in this forum. Make some noise already...!
I only have the one Rose Hair T right now. And let me tell ya, having only one T is a PITA when it comes feeding time. I mean, I really hate to buy 1 or 2 crickets at a time so I buy a half dozen minimum (and they usually throw in a couple extras). Charlotte will only eat 2 (sometimes 3) in a single sitting, so I wind up with all these extra crickets making noise and dying off. Don't want to waste perfectly good crickets...
So, I'm thinking I need one or two more Ts. That way I can go buy a half dozen crickets per week and feed 2 or 3 to each... I've been stopping by all the local pet stores every couple of days, but it seems that none of them are carrying any Ts. Out of 4 pet stores, I've seen one single Rose Hair and that's it. I have a Rose Hair, so I want something different next. Something colorful... Red Knee, Pink Toe, Indian Ornamental, something like that...
What's your favorite? Anyone know of a place to purchase online since my pet store pickings seem to be slim?
Dave

Well, (shudder) you know I'm afraid of spiders, however, I'm glad that someone loves them. Don't know how far away is too far to ship a spider, but the breeder I buy all my snakes from is awesome, and he has several varieties. His website does'nt show them, but if you send him an e-mail, or better yet, give him a call I'm sure he'd be glad to help ya out. It's piedmont Reptiles, phone # 336-861-3370. The website is www.reptilebasics.com
Hope this helps
Good Luck

if you want a colorful and different T then go with a green bottle blue. abdomen is orange ,carapace is green, legs are blue. there are very pretty. and try KS for dealers, they should have some there.

Hey Over I just got a Rose Hair myself and am prob getting another in a couple more days (Pink Toe). Actually my Rose ate 12 to 15 crickets in 2 day's she was starving! The guy at reptile Basics only has the common Rose Hairs so you may wanna look else where! Here check out this site lots of good info and places to by T's!

Not sure of where in Atlanta you are, but there is a pet store in Oakwood that has a wide variety. Wildside Exotics 770-535-9223.

Greenbottle blues are real neat tarantulas, unfortunately they are fairly skittish and like to hide a lot. So for all their color and uniqueness, they don't make the greatest of pets. If you want something you'll see a lot, try a salmon bird eater (Lasiodora parahybana) - they aren't real pretty, but they're big (8"!), not overtly aggressive, and love to show off.
If you're into the neat reds - there are several species of mexican Brachypelma that are great captives, if you can tolerate the urticating hairs. I have a particular fondness for the B. vagans. I see way too many B. smithii out there to care for them much.

OK, I got a list of what Wildside Exotics has in stock. And I found some pictures of the Greenbottle Blue tarantulas. They sure are pretty, Wildside says they are venemous and aggressive??
I really like the look of the Tigerrump too, but they don't have those in stock. They do have Redknees though... Rekon I'll have to drive out there and look these things over in person... See which one jumps out at me...
Thanks for all the suggestions!!!

All tarantulas are venomous. I don't believe there are any fatalities on record, but if you did get bit, you probably wouldn't enjoy the experience much. Of course, some are worse than others, but with any envenomation - everyone reacts differently and you need to be well aware of the potential risk involved.
The greenbottles I've worked with haven't been aggressive. They have been defensive and skittish. They don't enjoy being handled at all.

i have been bitten and stung by T's and scorps. both were about the same, lots of swelling and more pain than i could bear. the dr even prescribed me some T3's with codine. i will say that those were experiances i do not wish to experiance again. i dont remember what the T was but the scorp was a flat rock .

I am glad that you called Wildside. I get all my feeders from there. I respect the fact that two people who love reptiles, started there own business.(they are married, too ) One of the few reptile stores I have been in where they actually decorate thier viv's. Anyway, good luck with them, and tell them Jeremy sent ya!!

That part I know, just found it odd that they specifically pointed out the Greenbottle blue as "hot". I can't find any reference to them being any more venemous than other Ts anywhere else.
They sure are pretty though. We're going to take a drive to Wildside Exotics on Saturday and see what they've got. I haven't been spider shopping in a long time, should be fun...

So, I go to Wildside Exotics today to look at their tarantulas and see what looks good. I got out a Pinktoe and handled him a bit, never really paid them much attention before, but he was kinda cute.
Then I saw the striped knee and thought it looked cool. I got him out and looked him over. He seemed calm and docile enough, just sitting there on my hand while we talked about spiders and such. Then from out of nowhere, he jumps on the floor and takes off running. Luckily we were crouched down on one knee, so it wasn't far to the floor. I caught him before he went too far and picked him back up. He sat still for a fraction of a second then jumped on the floor again and took off in the other direction. Just as I caught him again, he jumped back on the floor. Then the owner caught him and he jumped back on the floor and took off again. Finally, the owner cupped his hands over the striped knee on the floor until his wife could bring a cup to put it in and we got him safely back in his cage. I felt like such a knucklehead. Nothing spooked him, he just jumped out of the blue and he's a quick little guy. He did NOT want to be held at all... I really wanted him, but I knew if I brought him home he'd eventually wind up on the floor and my wife would move out.
Soooo, I wound up leaving with another Rose Hair and a Pinktoe, both males. They did have a very young Greenbottle blue, but I didn't really want to spend $60 on a spider... The Rose Hair has a very pink back and is a much lighter color than my old Rosie. The Pinktoe is really really dark, almost black, everywhere except her toes. I'm getting their new homes ready now, I'll try to get some pictures up later...

And here's the pictures of my two new guys.
This young Rose hair is much rosier in color than my old Rosie:
The colors on the Pinktoe are really hard to capture. His legs and back are a very dark blueish color, but they show up in pictures as black:

They're nice folks, especially since they didn't throw me out after letting the striped knee get away...
I rekon they know enough about what they are doing, much more than I do at least. The guy isn't real big on tarantulas, even he said as much, but he knew enough to comment on the temperament of some of the different breeds...
We didn't talk much about snakes, but I walked around and looked at some of 'em. He did mention that they'd had a rash of a few snakes of questionable health that had died. He said it was because of a new supplier or something like that... They have an albino king that looks like it has the beginnings of mouth rot and some wounds on his sides either from ticks or prey, I didn't ask about it though. Everything else looked fairly healthy from what I could see, but there weren't many animals there that I was interested in. Told him I'd keep checking back for a nice bull snake...

OK...
Did he happen to tell you guys that he "forgot" to tell ME (the wife) that he was really looking for "a spider, or two" ? I just got the "I want a new spider" version.
I asked him as we were walking out of the store with two bugs in a box, "When did the 'or two' come into this equation???"

Don't let her fool any of ya. I certainly did add the "or two" part from the beginning, she's just in denial over my spiders...

>> no t's are are really "hot'' on venom except for a few, green bottle blues are'nt that venomous, now if you got bit by any of the poeciliotheria family(indian ornamentals, mysore ornamental, ornata, striatia, fasciata, subfusca, rufilata, etc...) then i would be concerned there venom is reported to inuce rapid heartbeat, cramps, dizzyness, sleepyness, intense pain... the other 2 to not get bitten by are Haplopelma schmidti(chinese gold tiger) or selenocosmia haina(chinese black tiger) their venom is reported to be medicaly signifigant and is being studied still, now if an elderly person or a child were to get bit it could be worse, i recomend not getting bit period, lol. i'm picking up some ''pokies'' this week i just sold all my scorps and vinegaroons, heres what i'll be getting, all for 132 dollars shipped a real bargain: poecilotheria rufilata(Redslate Ornamental) X (2) 1.5", poecilotheria formosa(salem ornamental, these are guys are said to be hot) X( 2) 1.5", poecilotheria ornata(fringed ornamental) X (3) 1.5", normaly this would cost at least around 200-300 bucks!, as far as a good place to buy t' i would have to suggest more of people who specialize in them and will give you more accurate information try swifts invertabrates, regal reptiles, todd gearheart at tarantulaspiders.com, bill stanton at invertpet.com (he has some good deals and nice nice stuff), heck i bought my 1st t over the internet 35 dollars for an adult indian ornamental! on the classifieds at petbugs, well sorry for the long rant but check out your options if you want to get a good deal and accurate info on what your buying--Jeff

very pretty rose hair and nice looking pinktoe, i have to say one thing though, Ts are not venomous, some like the pokies , ornamentals have high venom and can make you very ill. but i have yet to see a rose hair or a green bottle blue do that kind of damage to a person.. I have green bottle blues and they are not mean in anyway , yes they are fast and skittish but have never tried to bite..just like curly hairs some are agressive and some are sweet as pie, all Ts have diffrent personalities. some that are supose to be the best turn out to have a attitude. I have a giant white knee you can hold and then one that you cant even get near. Sure theres lots of them out there with beautiful color and are very intresting but you cant handle them, or you can get one thats sweet as pie and handle it and its just a real plain color..I find the G. Pulchra- Brazilian Black very pretty and very nice to work with, no hair flicking or bitting or any agressiveness. I have a huge female Texas Tan nice dark colors and shes sweet as ever to hold and work with. But i also like Mexican red knees, nice color sweet to work with and just a joy to have,, but they can flick hairs a lot..If your looking for Ts to buy try all the diffrent dealers online, theres www.E-spiderworld.com, GladesHerp has a real nice selection of Ts. theres Arachnocenter, LLLreptile and so many more just look around and youl find a good deal with lots Ts to choose from.
