I've had my Chilean Rose Hair for about 5 years now. This past weekend, a friend of mind donated a 29 gallon tank to replace the old 10 gallon tank I keep "Charlotte" in. So, yesterday I transferred Charlotte into her new spacious home...
The top of the tank had a cutout in it. No problem, a tarrantula can't climb that high on glass, right? Well... It never occurred to me that she could just climb up the electrical cord of her heat rock.
So, I'm going to have a very unhappy wife in the morning. She absolutely hates spiders... Wish me luck, there's still a chance I'll be able to find Charlotte...

Ugh... look in every dark corner you can possibly think of. And ditch the heat rock... I've seen those things top 140 degrees - good way to have baked spider.

I picked up the heat rock a few years ago when the winter temperatures dropped below her comfort level. I knew she wouldn't have anything to do with it directly, so it is burried under a thin layer of cypress under a plastic cave. It heats the cave and she hangs out on top of it when it gets chilly in the room. It wasn't until I got the boa a couple of weeks ago and started coming here that I heard so much negative stuff about heat rocks... So, now I know...
The wife got up this morning and put on her robe. I asked "Where are you going?", she said "Downstairs to make coffee..." Well, my mind started racing. Should I tell her the spider is out? What if she turns on the kitchen light and there sits Charlotte? Maybe she won't notice and I can go pick up a look-alike today. This was beginning to look like a bad episode of a sitcom.
"Well hon, just so you know, Charlotte isn't in her aquarium."
"Okaaay? And how do you know this?"
"I woke up around 2 this morning and couldn't sleep so I went down to see how she was doing in her new home, and she's not there."
"And you weren't dreaming?"
"Nope."
"And I'm not dreaming now?"
"Nope."
"And Charlotte isn't in her aquarium?"
"Nope."
*sigh* *shudder* "UUUUUGGGGGGGHHHHHH!"
"Don't forget, she's harmless!!!"
So, off she goes to make coffee, turning on every light in the house on the way. Took the dog and cat with her for protection, and a flashlight to look in the dark corners. We spent the last half hour turning over everything in the living room and kitchen to no avail... If she's gotten under the cabinets in the kitchen (the only place we can't see) she won't live long, it's been heavily poisoned for spiders under there.

Awww, I hope you find Charlotte soon! Maybe she is just out exploring and hopefully you will find her before your wife does!
Good luck, and let us know how it goes!

In drawers and cupboards and in all kinds things.. I let mine lose all the time but i do keep an eye on them as well.. Most the time i have one or two out here with me on the comp..good luck with the search and hope all is well with your T. Well folks, here's your update.
It's been three days since she got loose. This evening while in the RTB chat channel on IRC I said I'd given up hope of finding her alive at this point because we do poisen the kitchen pretty heavily for spiders and I figured that is where she must be hiding since I had turned the living room upside down a few times. So, I started a list of possible fellas I could get to occupy the now abandoned 29 gallon tank...
Then I went downstairs to start dinner and right there on the living room floor making a run for the closet (to get away from the dog) was Charlotte!!!! I scooped her up and gave her a kiss (ok, I didn't really kiss her) and put her back in her new home.
Then I got my jacket, keys, and wallet and headed out to pick up a heating pad and a screen top for the new aquarium. So, no more heat rock, and no more escapes (I hope)...

And I still haven't had dinner...

I'm just picturing the scene of the spider running from the dog across the living room floor as you dash over to intercept... I never thought any scene involving one of those eight-legged demon spawn could be so cutely amusing.
I'm glad you found her... Not as glad as your wife is, i'm sure.

Look behind your wardrobe, and under your desks and tables. These things can get everywhere.
