Question for spider lovers...
Hey everyone...I was wondering how everyone gets their tarantulas out of their enclosures to hold (if u have ones u can actually hold lol) Do you just pick them up like you would a snake or lizard, do u scoop them? I am still new at this so...the way I do it is put both hands in and lightly nudge my rose to walk onto my other hand...seems to work fine, but wondered if I could just grab her gently...i just don't want to pee her off. Also, I've been giving her one sm-med cricket every evening and she always goes right after it. This is ok right, cuz i read that they should eat every other day or so...I don't want to over feed her, (I don't think I am, but just asking to be sure...she sure loves her crickets!
Thanks for listening...any advice would be great!

Never grab a Tarantula. The best way is just to coax them onto your hand.

They should NOT eat daily. That is over-feeding a Tarantula. Roses can gorge themselves and then fast for months, seemingly for no reason. Over-feeding is dangerous; it can make your spider too heavy and increase the risk of an abdomen rupture if they fall while climbing or such... and it can accelerate their lifeline as well... A cricket once a week is just fine, two a week every now and then. Daily is too much.
Why do you hold your spider? I am curious. If it is because you enjoy doing so, I suggest trying to always minimize the risk of falling or injury, and be ready to be bitten, because it may happen. If you handle your Rose because you think she likes it/needs it, please stop. It is stressful to spiders to be handled, and there is no reason to do it for their sake, only your own. If you do like to handle her, please try not to get too comfortable due to her calm nature. If you get too comfortable, you may accidentally risk her wellbeing by forgetting she can suddenly bolt away quickly, kick hair, or bite.

Re: Question for spider lovers...
I have almost 50 tarantulas, and I don't hold them unless I must. The risk of injury to them is much to great in my opinion.
Out of all of my T's anyway there are only a few I could hold if I wanted too. I've heard to many stories of tarantulas being dropped, splitting open their abdomens and dying to be interested.
I treat my tarantulas like my fish, look at, don't hold.
