UGH!! These guys are really cool...on that side of the screen!
I do think that they are interesting, but I don't think that I would ever own one.
What kind of scorpion is stinger?

Unfortunately, another animal that was bought out of coolness without ANY prior knowledge or attempted learning before purchase.
I'm gonna have to rag you on this Heather, but it is best all around for owner and animal, first and foremost, to EDUCATE yourself PRIOR to purchase.
I recommend either a Google search or just buy a book.
I also reccomend in the future that you learn what is needed about the species you want in advance of getting it. (This applies to ALL animals!!)

If that were true then you would already know if they are right or wrong.
Just do the research in the future PRIOR to getting the animals, for the animals sake!

heather, their not that hard to care for feed about 2-3 times a week on crickets or roaches, make sure you keep the tank semi-humid, use good peat soil or vermiculite with no chemicals in it for substrate, they also molt like spiders too, to tell the difference in sex, the females will have feathery looking feelers on their bellys kinda, ahhhhh i can't remember what their called, also make sure you give her/him some good hiding places some will burow and make tunnels kinda, also i would'nt suggest using a sponge in the water dish unless you always make sure its clean(i usualy use flat marbles), otherwise crickets can lay eggs in the sponge or fungus can grow on it, well thats all for now, goood luck with your new emp their pretty cool, have you tried picking it up yet?----Jeff

AMEN Eddie. This thinking just goes to show how people think of cheaper priced exotics as throw away pets. They don't mean to do it at first, but thats how it happens. From what i understand they are not hard to care for. BUT what would you do if you picked up a cheap animal and found it was really cumbersome to keep? Some cheap animals can be a real PITA to care for. Just look at the TX Horned Lizard. A very cool looking animal and very reasonably priced, BUT are you gonna be able to supply it with enough ants to feed it?
Do research before you BUY. Impulse buying is a good way to get a Het though. Het for Dead!

Thankfully, horned lizards are protected in much of their range now. They make horrible pets unless you happen to already have a horned lizard colony in your back yard and can collect the ants for them.
I think the main issue is that most pet stores will sell any animal to anyone with the money. They never ask if you know what you're doing. While I myself find scorpions extremely easy to care for, they do have some specific needs (outlined decently in those care sheets and on petbugs.com) which need to be maintained that some people would not be able to do. One thing thing that drives me insane is people that set up tarantulas and scorpions in inappropriate setups because they have this burning need to always see their animal. Without ever even thinking that most of these animals in the wild spend 90% of their time hiding under things and in burrows so we -can't- see them. This usually ends up in the animal stressing and its life span halfed.
