Colourful Milipede...
... from the lowland tropical forests of the Yucatan.. They're not noticeably different from many I see here in Texas, just much larger.
.

.
This was an average-sized example, they're really pretty. I saw a possum eating one, UUUUGGGH!. I never have liked possums very much.
.
Be safe!

Im not a big fan of millipedes myself....Although I said that about tarantulas and ended up with one, so I should probably just shut up and learn!
That is a BIG millipede! How big do they get? Kinda pretty with the yellow. Possums eat those??

I saw some larger but not any over about 8" in length.. there is at least one species that gets around 10" long. Millipedes are inoffensive and do not bite, it does feel creepy when they're on you.. but they have a chemical defense. When really threatened they will curl up and then sweat this yellowish ooze from micro-pores on the body. This stuff stinks, sticks to everything and I am sure tastes awful, possibly it is toxic. The possum was foaming from the mouth while chewing the bug!

It is benzol cyanide...harmless to humans...
EDIT: I looked it up. Not all are benzol cyanide, hydrogen cyanide is also common...the chemicals released are unique to the family/genera/species.

I'm with you Tracy. Nice colors, but I'd never let one of them crawl on me.
