Sorry Raven....I can't stand spiders. I know how important they are in the ecosystem so I don't kill them (unless there in my house) but I won't touch them for the life of me. Ever since I've seen that movie arachnaphobia nope, not gonna touch any of them unless it's with the bottom of my shoe...call me a puss...
I am when it comes to spiders.....like scorpions though....hehe[addsig]

I am the same way, spiders just freak me out for some reason. But so did snakes once upon a time, now I love em. I believe what they say is true, we are scared of the unknown or misunderstood. The same would probably hold true for me and spiders, but I am in no rush to find out.[addsig]

Same thing here, I just can't stand spiders. I will watch one walking around for a while and just go through life being a spider. But, I won't kill them either. I used to be afraid of snakes. I once caught a Western Painted Turtle. Then, my mom brought up the issue of possible salmonella problems. I got really upset of course and said, "Why did it have to be turtles? Why can't it be that way with snakes?" And that's how I got my first snake, a ribbon snake. It's funny how many people I know that love snakes that can't stand spiders. Most people assume that if you love snakes, then you must be a spider aficionado too.[addsig]

Spiders are actually and endless source of fascination if you take the time and effort to observe them up close. Did you know that spiderweb silk is stronger than steel if you match it gauge for gauge.

Awww, tarantulas are like big fuzzballs. They are gentle and absolutely fascinating! Arachniphobia (the movie) was a pile of horse dung, for there is not one tarantula in the universe that is threatenting to humans, not one in over 200 species! Tarantulas are cool, but I can understand the fear if you are talking about black widows, brown recluses, etc.
And yes, scorpions rock! They are too cool! [addsig]

Spiders are fascinating and fun to watch at times. I used to feed the writing spiders around the outside of my house. However, the house I grew up in had black widows by the dozens living everywhere. My dad wiped em out as much as he could. I feel no shame about the ecosystem here. I believe in survival of the fittest, and no spider is fit to live in my house.
Actually, tarantulas are pretty cool. For some reason the don't scare me at all. I could even see myself owning one someday. But if he invites friends in, they're gonna get it. [addsig]

I've always been fascinated by spiders.. But, I never really learned to like them. I always find the small spiders more creepier than the big ones. But I'm fascinated by trapdoor spiders, and the daddy long legs. Is it actually true that daddy long legs are not spiders?[addsig]

I guess it would be hypocritical to tell people to learn about snakes in order to love them. Then not do the same for spiders. Doesn't seem like there is a lot of info on spiders online. Anybody know good places to look?[addsig]

I think they are neat and pretty and fascinating and I'm not afraid of them but I just really don't get excited about pet bugs of any kind.

Awww, Julius. Calling a tarantula a "bug" is like calling a python venomous. Wrong reputation.[addsig]

I don't know....I still can't stand spiders...that's like the one thing in life I'm afraid of....people at work mess with me all the time about it and try to throw them at me. I haul a$$ at OH SH*T SPEED!!!! Then I make them pay by putting them down on the ground and making them squeel mercy!! Wrestling's taught me so much...hehe.
But for spiders.....no thank you....call me territorial...it comes near me it has a run in with my shoe and usually loses. I have seen some rugadized spiders though....Gotta wack em like 6 times to get them.... [addsig]

About the movie comment : I would think it is as far from reality as the Anaconda movie. Yet, I saw an article on Discovery channel the other day about a spider in Australia that looks a lot like the one in the movie. It rears up on it's hin legs to attack and comes at you... Big too, about 7 or 8 inches spread by the pictures...
I have a hard time holding spiders (they DO have huge fangs, some of them), but letthem live around my house since they eat all kind of other bugs, and seem very clean. This is also why we have geckos all over the outside of our house, I won't allow anybody to mess with the "wild" reptiles... We have a large assortment of Geckos and Anoles around my yard, plus plenty of spiders.[addsig]

Yes, Julius, pythons aren't venomous. Sorry to burst your bubble!! hehe
Yes, some tarantulas are more aggressive, but I meant as far as the movie "Arachnaphobia," no tarantula in the world is venomous to kill a person. At the most, the worst tarantula bite would react like a bee sting, if not just a mosquito bite. And yes, their fangs are rather large and unpleasant to look at while holding them, but it just makes them all that more fascinating! [addsig]

I"ll take your word for it. I find them fascinating when they stay in there little critter cage....nice and locked up...with a book on top of that....then i"ll stack a couple of chairs you know the usual... What can I say, the movie scarred me for life...seriously. I won't kill them outside because I know how important they are...but they're not important inside my house...they can stay away... Slaponte, you are probably also the only man in Miami that doesn't have a mosquito problem. Those things grow to the size of F15s down there. Do your lawn critters take out those mutant Florida Roaches too?

I don't want to scare anybody here, but actually the worst case tarantula bites can put you in a coma if you are allergic. Ravenlace don't be mad at me, you did say worst case.
Slaponte: The spider you are talking about is the Funnel Web Spider, which is highly aggressive and deadly to humans. They have planty of antivenin available in Australia, though. However, they are not in the tarantula family.[addsig]

DON'T KILL THE BIG MOSQUITOS...Those really large mosquitos are called mosquito hawks...they do not bite humans at all. They prey on small mosquitos that do bite. Also only female mosquitos bite. The males are the ones that make the lil buzzing sound in your ear...they are just lookin for chicks not food. Females don't buzz...they come in on stealth mode. Mosquito hawks are actually bred and released in some areas to help control mosquito populations. Bats are by far the best mosquito catchers though...Placing bat houses around is a good thing to do to attract them to the area. Dragonflies and frogs help alot too.

i am not a spider guy.last night as i was working on lars' cage,a little bitty spec of a spider crawled past me and i had to stop what i was doing and get a flash light to find it and kill it.i felt bad about it though, does that count?as for daddy long-legs,they're actually one of the most venomous spiders in the world, but their fangs arent long enough to penetrate human skin.they are for killing bugs, and i'll let them crawl all over me as long as i can keep an eye on them.if i lose sight of them i find em quick and kill kill kill.then i feel bad again.hehe.i beat my fear of snakes and i'm still working on the spider thing.that one is tough to beat though.
