Widget: Fugitive At Large
So I live in California, and I have an axolotl named Widget. I bought her before the ban went into effect. Unfortunately I did not save the receipt, so I have no actual proof of this. Does anyone know what I should do? Is she legal since I bought her before the law went into effect? I plan on keeping her for the rest of her natural life and never breeding. I really enjoy her as a pet, but I want to know how careful I need to be.

What is an axoloti? And can we have pics? Something with such a strange name must be pretty adorable!
You can actually go online and check the exotics laws in your city and county. I have found from experience that the local animal control officials don't know anything about their own laws, strangely.
You can also ask the people you bought it from to give you another receipt. In fact, they may be knowledgeable about the laws, as well, and whether you can be grandfathered in.

What she said.
Axolotls are incredibly adorable! If I had room for another aquatic tank, I'd get one!

Re: Widget: Fugitive At Large
Here is the Widget! She decided to come out to the front of the tank and paddle ineffectually. Pardon her potbelly--she ate two goldfish.
