Re: Possible oddity found in wild?
What an AWESOME find!! I've never seen a lieutistic in the wild before. I can't believe I missed this thread...lol
Keep that fella. He's the most awesome toad I've ever seen. I live in GA, too, and I see those type of toads all the time. I'll keep an eye out for any white toads (yea, like I'll ever run across one...lol)
BUT if I do, it's yours...I dont keep frogs, they never do good for me. lol
It would be awesome of you could produce lieutistic offspring!

Re: Possible oddity found in wild?
Spadefoots are easy to ID because they have vertical pupils, Anaxyrus formerly Bufo (Toads) have horizontal pupils.
Spade of spade foot.

.
American Toad
Regarding Toad Captive Care: Toads don't drink water they absorb water through a patch of skin on their abdomen. You must have a water container large enough and deep enough for the toad to sit in. Only use spring water as city tap (chlorinated) water will probably kill the toad.

I went back an looked at the pics. Note how all the toes terminate with a dark patch of skin. I believe that the "spur" you're referring to is simply the terminal end of the big toe.

Re: Possible oddity found in wild?
Thanks for the tip about the water. I was/am using a plastic dog dish sort of thing ( what I use for all my reptiles, bought a ton of them since they were on sale when I saw them a few months ago at walmart lol ) They are around 4 inches deep, don't tip very easily and heavy built. Just the way I like them. Its half full of water, hopefully that will be enough, I don't want to fill it too high or it will spill over some when "butterball" gets in lol. I was using Aquafina bottled water. I don't like our tap water. Its icky and I don't think any my animals would like it either. I'm weird... I know.

Re: Possible oddity found in wild?
I took another picture of him tonight, to get a better view of his eyes. Hard to get him still, he doesn't like the flash I don't think. He is a little dirty in this picture, sorry about that. But thats what happens when your burrowing down in some moist peat moss =)
