Yeah, that's it for sure, good find. The pigmentation thing still has me baffled though.

It is one of those freaks of nature that may or may not be able to be reproduced. That is the fun of stumbling across something like that.

Re: Possible oddity found in wild?
Leucistic is what I was thinking also. Yes it does look a lot like an American toad. Its so hard to tell what it is with no others that are not like it to compare it too.

It would be really neat if my brother found another. I will tell him to keep an eye out. If it has a sibling or something that took on the same genetic trate then the place he found this one would most likely be the were to look for a sibling or parent. I wonder how hard it would be to shift them over to captive behavior. Right now it seems pretty mellow. I held it to get some pictures of it when I posted this thread and it seemed to not be too afraid of humans. Wouldn't be too surprising since it was found in a pool.

Re: Possible oddity found in wild?
I agree with Adrya, Leucistic has my vote. I think the coolest frogs I have ever seen are the axanthic red eye tree frogs. Good luck with your toad.

Re: Possible oddity found in wild?
Not to familiar with amphibians, but do southerns/americans/ect have spades on their back feet? I've never looked when feeding the hognose..
My guess would have been spadefoot just by looking at the feet but the glands are a bit enlarged by comparison and it's a tad bit more "warty". Perhaps the leucistic color makes these things more appearent?
I'd start there, just didn't feel like googling to find out for myself.
