Lots of Amphibians...
I didn't say frogs because for all I know they're toads or...mushrooms that look like tadpoles...
I had so many pictures from my day out today that I decided to split the threads into the frog pictures and the rest of the pictures. While out near Ohiopyle there were little pools of slowly trickling water that came down from the hills and eventually merged with the river beyond the majority of the falls.
At first I only spotted one pool, the on the way back I found at least three more large pools filled with these guys, even stopped to watch some slid over the edge into the pool beneath it (they were terraced on the rocks, very cool stuff)
So without further ado frog/toad/whatever cool pictures:

OK, that's it. Time for me to get back into the field. I LOVE this tiem of year when the water sources are slap full of hundreds of thousands of tadpoles. I have noticed that I rarely find more than one species per water source (usually culverts). Last year I identified several species of tadpole. I am going to take more samples this year. Hopefully my new camera will have as good a Macro.

It was really amazing, I've never seen that many in one spot, much less over several pools. I couldn't even believe the number. All in various stages of development, some even had little legs wiggling around. |
