Hey there guys. I ran across some cave salamanders that are up for adoption, but I can't find any information about the captive care of these sallies. I can gather most of the information I need from natural histories, but I'm curious about the humidity range and temperature they should be maintained at. I know they don't need great lighting since they usually hang around in caves and under debris and I know they eat insects, slugs, and worms at a staple diet. If y'all have any other info, please let me know....I haven't got them yet.

Very cool... that particular species doesn't have any federal status as of yet, but they are protected in some states where they range. They inhabit the twilight zone of caves, so I would surmise that they should be kept at a pretty constant temperature - there isn't alot of variation down inside of a cave. Sometimes they can be found outside thc caves, under bark and logs... in spring-fed moist areas. A nice terrarium setup that stays pretty humid, plantlife shouldn't make a huge difference because in the twilight area of the caves there are no plants.

I've wanted to do some caving here in Texas, just to get pictures of some of the fascinating species of cave salamanders (They're all protected).
