An interesting find....
Well, if you like anurans anyway....
Found a very light colored wood frog (Rana sylvatica) tadpole in my vernal pool yesterday evening. I've seen many wood frog tadpoles over the years but never one this light.
Atypical colored tadpole next to a normal specimen.

nice tadpole John. I have never seen a a light colored one period. The dark ones no matter how large never last in the indoor pool--they get picked out by the wd's and eaten too fast.
I will check out the local wooded area on our VERY first herping trip.
We are taking a few mom's and girls from school and some backpacks....should be great. I have hiked the woods a hundred times but never ISO herps---so this time a camera comes along. Wish us luck!

Very neat... I imagine that thing would have been picked up as food pretty fast in that pool.

I hoping that the coloration of the tadpole is of herpetological significance, but more than likely it is not. Albino wood frogs have not been documented in my state, so it would be nice to find one.

Good luck on your outing!
If the park has a naturalist you may want to check with him/her for a few pointers as far as where to look.
The amphibians in your area are probably still fairly active. I suspect that toads and leopard frogs are still calling (if the park has a wetland). Look under logs that are in moist areas, but not too wet for salamanders. Always put the logs back in place and watch where you put your fingers. Lets us know what you find.

yeah there are wetlands....swamp areas, a great lake and all sorts of wildlife. Nomatter if I find anything I will post some photos of the area ---no one believes they are in NYC. It's acres and acres of protected land.
