Hey Mark,
It was my first winter experience with a tegu this year, I found it really difficult to prevent him from hibernating. As I have no immediate plans to breed meego, and because I'd miss him so much, I decided to keep him up through the winter months. He slowed down a whole lot, and wasn't eating much, and when he went to sleep at night, we would have to wake him up in the morning, instead of him getting up by himself. So that should answer your question, if left alone they will definitly hibernate.
