Sounds like you're doing great with the trimmings Steve
Since iggys in captivity usually don't have the variety of surfaces to wear the nails down as they do in the wild, they need a good trimming every so often.
The technique is basically the same as any other critter that gets trims. a sin not too close to the quick, or meat and as needed.
If you are seeing iggys with that seem too long and in some cases, curled nearly in a ful circle, just pass off some advice to the owner(s), pet store or whoever, and maybe they'll help make walking and climbing a little easier for the ig.
