Very Ill Elderly Snake
So i got a call, a boy was trying to get rid of a snake he had just gotten, his mom wouldnt let him keep it. so i took it off his hands.... He is blind, i was told he has built up eye caps from years of neglect. one eye is buldging, and in the right light you can see both pupils... they both move, and react to light. BUT he does not react to movement, he reacts to noise and blowing on him (like your breath). but thats not the worst of it! He has repeated "kinks" in his lower spine. they are about an inch long (each kink) ribs conected to the spine feel normal. they are large kinks, about 1/2 inch high off his back. he has movement in his rear end, but its very weak, and he doesnt hold on to anything. if you roll him on his back he rolls back, just a little slower then normal snakes. sometimes when your holding him he will flip his head and upper neck over and you have to correct him. he had a bowel movment last night, which seemed runny to me, along with a green globb.
His previous living conditions are un clear to me.. when i picked him up, he had newspaper in a large tank, a good sized water dish, but a REGULAR light blub for a "heat" source. no thermometer no humidity guage. no substrate. NOTHING. i was told he sleeps in his water dish... (he didnt the first night i had him, he did last night) I currently have his cage at 85 warm side 75ish cool side, 95ish hot spot... but he doesnt realy move... so i just reach in to make sure he feels warm, but not HOT! he is very slow moving, doesnt pull back fast, even if you open his mouth, or bump his face. i was told he eats pre killed small rats, and to just take the tongs and move it near his nose. He seems a healthy weight... not boney.. flicks his tounge like a normal snake.
great looking skin! no flaws, or mites are apparent. no signs of RI or mouth rot!
Now im sure everyone will say GET HIM TO THE VET! well i wish i could... we cannot find a vet that will see him. the vet i take my Ball pythons to, wont see a boa, claims he isnt knowledgeable.. ANY IDEAS OR TIPS!
