thanks Vinny, I would love to use Cypress mulch, but its R230 a bag.
Aspen bedding is R38 a bag and corn cob is R49 a bag.
if I had to kit all my cages out with Cypress mulch, it would cost me well over R1000, which is more than what a BCI goes for here and for R2000 more I can get a suriname boa, soI just cant see myself spending more on my substrate than what a boa goes for
I asked why the stuff is so expensive and the answer I got was "Because its imported" now correct me if I am wrong, all it is is Wood shavings, I mean I have seen the bag I can see its wood shavings, so how is a wood shaving so expensive and why on earth does it even need to be imported!!! we have more than enough trees here in south africa thanks!!
but anyway I just kitted my surinames cage out with aspen bedding, so far I am not impressed, its so messy its not even funny, and it had allot of fine dust in the bag which I had to use a siv to filter out before I put it in the cage.
maybe normal sawdust for things like hamsters will do the trick?
