I have the same problem with my ball there will be times when he eats on a weekly basis and then turns around and won't eat for months. I have tried giving him frozen but he won't touch it so what I do is buy him live and put the mouse in a bag and bang it around to daze it (doesn't take much) and put it in a box and he goes for it right away. I do the same with my red tail that eats rats. They are both tame and have never struck at me also I tend to feed them late night when they are more active and are searching for food. If your snake is out and about at night most likely means they are looking for food.
