Sounds like you are feeding live and have a party for it to look cool.

A live food item can kill your snake very easily. Sometimes in the initial bite, other times due to an infection occurring afterwards.

If you decide your snake isn't cool enough anymore, please let it go to a rescue group.
As for cool pets from here om out, I will suggest pet rocks.
They can be spray painted with any color scheme you want.
As for the feeding show with a pet rock, they really love the little smooth river gravel and readily eat it like popcorn.
