Funny, we have one fisheries class and that's actually an choice: avian bio or fisheries. Well I didn't want to take fisheries and there was a class conflict with avian bio so I took an animal behavior class instead. My classes at UF are focused on managing large scale: habitats, landscapes, metapopulations, etc. It's a conservation driven major instead of how some others are more game and hunting management.

I would really enjoy a field job, but I don't think I could leave my collection for more than a week. They're my kids!!
You can have a field biologist job and still have your animals! I intend to! I'll still have my small breeding business on the side and hopefully find job(s) with the state, water management districts, and others doing data collection near to where I live. I did a 6 month job an hour south of me. I got up when I wanted to, drove the hour down south, checked my herp traps, left at dark, and back in time to take care of animals or whatnot. So it is attainable, you'll just have to keep searching!
