Chance needs to be hook trained. Whenever you want to take him out of the cage use a snake hook (clothes hangers, paper towel rows also work) to gently pat him on his head area to let him know that he is not about to be fed. When it is feeding time do not use the hook, they quickly realize the hook routine.
