I use the 10.5"x11" for my 4ft cages and it does fine along with the lighting; creates enough heat.

and I decided to note that I went ahead and purchased a bunch of those $7 10.5x11" heat mats for the latest cages I'm building... I'll see how it goes with them. I also purchased the largest size they make, 11"x17" for $9. Normally I pay about $30 for one of those.
