My DOR List is Long and sad.
DORs:
1- 5 foot female Canebrake
Way more Gopher torts, box turtles, sliders and other various turtle like things than I can even count.
several black racers
1 huge grey ratsnake
1 heartbreakingly beautiful melanistic southern hognosed snake (took pics for proof)
a few banded watersnakes
some more black racers...they were everywhere
Mudsnake (sounds ugly but they are actually a very beautiful species)
Do armadillos count?
lottsa toads...sadly some died because of me...even at 10mph they were hard to avoid.
Live Snakes I or in many cases (we) spotted but were too slow or unwilling to brave certain terrain to catch...usually we were just too slow though.
More Black Racers than you can shake a stick at
1 Southern Pine that vanished into nowhere land before I could get out of the truck.
2 Really nice eastern kingsnakes that Barry spotted first ..I gave up on for a much more important task...shaking ants out of my shoes and off my now messed up looking ant chewed legs
big fat pretty glass lizard
I didnt chase too many lizards but saw a lot of various skinks and fence lizards
We also saw a few nighttime phantom snakes that vanished off the roads and out of sight before they could even be identified.
The only 2 snakes I actually captured:
1 insanely obese or more likely very gravid Banded Watersnake that managed to frighten more people back at camp than Morti's rattlesnake....She was a horrid nasty mean beast! Ted released her into the swamp for me after her early morning fashion session.
and 1 really sweet and sociable male subadult grey ratsnake and no it wasn't driving a mustang and yes it was very much within it's supposed natural range. We ended up giving him to the park's nature center. They were specifically looking for one. We also gave them one of John Whites Copperheads for their education program.
Special thanks to John White for sending me those coppers and to Jim for transporting them. They are all 4 very healthy and very nice animals. I kept 2. Brian and I split the 2 pretty female southerns. (I made him whimper a bit first though) I kept the transpecos x southern male and the northern male went to the park
