Thousands of people will view this thread....some of them will be knowledgeable enough to roll their eyes, but the kids will spread this crap as fact. The adults who are fearful of snakes and against this hobby may just use this crap to further their goal. It only takes one person to s t r e t c h reality to fuel the ignorant.

The flip side to that is tons of new keepers will be reading this. Ones who will get complacent with their boas, and it could lead to just as much legislation. How many young 13-17 year old kids own boas? Do you think they are all competent keepers who have been put in these situations and know how to get out of them? I know when Charger almost put me out I was naive young and complacent. For me it is just better to encourage responsibility for the keepers who have never been in the "death grip" (and give advice like have 2 people present, spray bottles with vinegar, alcohol, bitter apple, unwrap the tail, etc......) than to say every keeper will be safe with a 6 foot boid, and no precautions need to be taken. We all have to learn somehow and the first time a kid gets wrapped, I would rather they had help than tell them they are not experienced enough to own potentially dangerous reptiles.
Of all the "guru" snake keepers I have talked to about this, the bar stool defense is new to me, perhaps you can explain some of the tricks to us less experienced keepers. I have never been wrapped around my neck or my torso. I have never had my arms pinned to my torso. I have had plenty of arm wraps and one neck squeeze, but I would love to know how more experienced keepers who do not have help get out of these situations.
And don't assume people who get wrapped and can't get out are just in-experienced.

She's turned my head bright red just pushing on the sides of my neck. I'm much more careful now. She never comes out unless my wife is home and close by.

Good to see someone else who had circulation cut off with the snake never being completely around the neck, I was beginning to think I was the only one.
