Lol, I remember the quiet when we lived in Louisiana...our house was right on the bayou, and we lived in a tiny little town, so it was SO quiet at night, you could hear a mouse fart. It was that kind of quiet that makes it feel like the air is pressing in around your ears.
So one night I was standing out by the bayou, looking up and being amazed that I could actually see the stars instead of them being obscured by smog and city lights, having my little "one with nature" moment. Then I heard what I swear to this day was an alligator call...you know, that deep "BAAAARRROOOOOO!!" growly noise they make, and all in an instant it struck me how very dumb I was standing on the shore of a bayou at night in easy range of alligator grabbing.
I went to take off, slipped and fell in the mud, panicked, screamed bloody murder, and picked myself up and ran into the house. My husband looked up in time to see me tear up the back porch steps, slam the door behind me, and stare at him all wide eyed, covered in mud. Whereupon he started laughing hysterically and I went to take a shower.
After that I did my nature worshipping from the back porch, safely out of gator range.
