Well, by golly it is a Storeria dekayi.

As for the damage to the skin, I am for now assuming a bacterial infection along with ground in dirt and and way too much humidity seeing how we have been having a LOT of rain these last few weeks.

It was found in a local home owners garden, but he didn't smite it with thine shoverl, per say..
he caught it thinking it was a copperhead, and if not for his own and neighbors kids, then prolly would have let it be.
He didn't want to risk anyone getting bitten, so he opted for a relocation instead of death.
Bravo!
We need more people like that!
