My first thought about drowning in chest waders was you could swim out of them if that did happen, but upon further thinking on it I would say they probably cling to you pretty hard once you get all that water in them. Just a thought if anyone was thinking the same thing. Still not a good idea.
Speaking of that...I have always thought that drowning would be one of the worst ways to die. I can't imagine a worse ending to a herping trip than loosing one of your buddies while looking for frogs.
