No coincidence. It is quite common for pure white felines with one or two blue eyes to be deaf in one or both ears. Curiously, this seems to coincide with whichever side has the blue eye(s). If the feline has two blue eyes, than the deafness is generally bi-lateral.
Thier are also instances of certain breeds of domestic canines who don't normally carry the trait (Spitz type breeds such as Finnish Spitz, Sib. Huskies,etc commonly carry this trait) displaying the same anomaly. I have seen quite a few great danes with blue eyes who were also deaf in one or both ears.
So no. I think it is safe to conclude that this is hardly a coincidence.
