I've been paying my bleeders' dues lately, too. One of Noodle's babies is a real pissant -- a foot and a half long and hisses louder than his mother. Clamped onto my knuckle the first time I tried to pick him up. And then the mother -- a pretty calm snake before the delivery, now she thinks she's defending the nest and passes up no opportunity to attack the hands that come in to change her water, etc. I only go in there now with long sleeves and gloves. She nailed me but good the other day -- alligatored down on the fleshy part of my palm, drew blood right through the polypro jogger's gloves I was wearing. Ouch! Another time she mistook her own body for part of mine, and bit herself in the side -- a dead shot, clamped down with both jaws.
Now I'm afraid of her.
