Actually, initially I was kidding by offering the alternative...

...however, really though, do snakes just go around biting people or dogs without feeling threatened? The dog was clearly excited around the snake, possibly by the snake. Perhaps it was worried about the snake attacking, but I kinda doubt it. I just don't picture a snake sitting in hiding waiting to bite little kids for no reason. I'm surprised so many here are actually buying the story so easily. I'm not saying what is presented isn't the truth, but I'm not saying I totally buy it.
