I am not ANY spider's greatest fan, but I think you are 100% right about what you said bww. I also think the same goes for snakes too. I never wanted anything to do with snakes until I saw Delilah (Constrictor_Bo's boa), but when I saw her I just had to hold her and now....I love the lil critters!
As a side note, my mom was terrified of snakes, but I finally got her to the point where she would touch them (as long as they were looking the other way). She was even more likely to touch a larger snake rather than a smaller one because "I can see that one better and if it gets loose it will move slower" maybe true, maybe not, but that is how she would rationalize it. When she came to visit she actually HELD one of my little ones (Simon, my 6 month old BCI). I am so proud of how far she has come and it was all because of a little bit of education about the snakes.
