Finally some good news about a rescue/rehab after what we had here yesterday. About a week ago I received an email from someone whos had just purchased a couple of neonate salmon boas. They had just gotten them a couple of hours previously and set them up in their new homes. They bought a pair. The male was doing fine. The female however was not. By the time the person received a reply from me on their first email they had sent. The snake was even worse than what they wrote me about going on. First off let me say,
The vet that they use for their reptiles had "faith lost" issues as far as this person was concerned.
This took place on Saturday evening.
They could not find another vet in their area that knows reptiles.
The snake according to the first email was dehydrated, underweight, non-feeding for awhile
[ found that out when they got the snakes], RI [ popping, wheezing, mucous etc], ..think that was all in the original email. [img]modules/Forum/images/smiles/icon_confused.gif[/img]
I sent an email asking more questions.
In reply I was now told that the snake was not righting itself when it got turned over..UGH. [got flipped over when the owner moved the hide to check on the snake]
By this point the owner was freaking big time. Think I received about a dozen emails over the next couple of hours even in regards to this snake and what to do for it. I went over temps, husbandry, meds needed, therapy needed for some of the issues going on etc in multiple emails to the owner during the course of the night.
The owner has a friend that is a vet, but of course they do not do reptiles at all, just dogs/cats basically. I passed emails to the vet for information on what needed to be done, but not till like the 2nd day later. This vet is/was more than willing to help out np, but just needed some information in relation to snakes was all first.
I got the dosing for the Baytril the snake needed for the RI from Julius. [ It was decided that Baytril would be held off for now till the snake was rehydrated more so though.]
This person lives in Florida somewhere in the area that Fazed and Repscue are located, or nearby somewhat. So I got the name and info of the vet that repscue works for that takes care of reptiles also and passed it on to the owner of the snake. [not sure if the owner contacted this vet or her friend whose a vet consulted with him at all or not though.
This snake would not even try to drink at all. I didn't want to have the owner do a soak for dehydration due to the RI going on either. Sooo I spent about an hour on the phone with the person on Sunday going over with them, and walking them through tubing a mixture for nutrients and hydration into the snake step by step. [i]When no tubing equip. is available, yes ya can actually make do with an eye dropper for a neonate snake..UGH. Found that out real quick. [ I have what's needed here for tubing a snake, owner had nothing there at all for such]. This snake was going downhill
fast and either was having some sort of neuro problem due to the hydration thing at this point possibly or
the topic of the dreaded IBD was asked about as a possibility by the owner..UGH. . [Owner got the needed supplies for tubing the next day/Monday from her vet friend..TG.]
I continued going back and forth in email with the owner of the snake, still doing such also. She sends daily updates on how the snake is progressing and any questions her or her vet friend have in regards to the snake and it's issues. I also received this from her recently in email....[parts of the email..]

NOTE : This snake was offered for sale on KS classifieds with it's clutchmates recently. The snake offered and sold by a herp dealer in the state of Florida.
PLEASE , when buying a new addition to your herp family .. make sure the dealer is reputable and you know what their husbandry is like also...PRIOR TO PURCHASE
