I, for one, am glad that you did. Otherwise I wouldn't have seen it. During the past six years, Old Glory has taken on a very special significance for me.

My most prized collection is not a snake, nor is it my Mustang. It is an American flag, flown over southern Iraq. It's ironic how something so inexpensive can be so valuable.

Perhaps the hardest, yet most rewarding, thing that I've ever done is to serve on an Honor Guard. In one year, I rendered honors at over 120 funerals. Presenting a flag to the next of kin is never easy, and it can be difficult to keep my military bearing sometimes.

Those that choose to desecrate our flag by burning it fail to grasp what it respresents. Burning the flag is akin to spitting in my face, as well as defiling the graves of those who have served before me. I am hopeful that this will be the year that we see an ammendment finally added to the Constitution regarding flag desecration. There is only one valid reason to burn the flag, and that is to dispose of it when it is no longer serviceable. This is to be done in a private, dignified setting.

That being said, here's another link that you might find interesting. Likewise, it may evoke some tears from the proud & patriotic amongst us. The world mourns 11 September

And a couple of interesting quotes to illustrate why we have won the first part of this little "jihad"...

Taliban supreme leader, Mullah Mohammed Omar:
"The situation where we are now, there are two things: either death or victory. To those who are fighting and bombarding us, they should understand the Afghan man is a fighter willing to die for jihad."

General George S. Patton:
"I want you to remember that no bastard ever won a war by dying for his country. He won it by making the other poor dumb bastard die for HIS country..."
