Re: Intermediate Keeper Series
I'd also like to point a few things out, and I hope I can do that without tipping anyone's hat too much.
When I initially brought the idea up, it was not just about some of the less common snakes in captivity (meaning something other than BCI, BCC, ball, corn, etc). It is also, in my mind, designed to cover issues of:
health, like signs of various illnesses (infections, parasites, etc.);
books in the hobby;
taxonomy (what separates Elaphe, Pituophis, etc.);
laws and legislation (what's legal, illegal, and where);
transporting (locally if moving, shipping if buying/selling0;
and many other topics for the intermediate keepers.
RTB is a great site. A lot of traffic is generated via searches, and we consistently have a lot of new people signing up. Some new members have experience, some don't. A lot of sites are geared towards new people, and a lot of sites are towards the experienced and advanced keepers. What sites offer something for intermediate keepers, specifically targetting them?
We have some extremely experienced members here, and I just wanted to try and spark something to get that experience and intelligence out there and available to others. BWSmith has done a great write up on feeding schedules that I think belongs in this area. I'd love to get some work out of Telefrag (dude is wicked smart with herps) and numerous others. So please, feel free to toss out suggestions on anything you'd like to see related to intermediate keeping, be it husbandry, handling, equipment, books, taxonomy, history of the hobby, whatever you like.
And much thanks to both Natas and Morti for seeing this through and making it happen. I'm really, really pleased.
