I have to disagree about all rats biting. The only rats that have ever bitten me I have either been drawing blood from or accidentally scaring in some way. You know how there are 101 tricks to get a snake to eat f/t? Well there's 101 tricks to figuring out why a rat is scared and biting. Most don't bite unless given a good reason to. That being said, if you invoke that bite, the rat won't hold back. JMHO.
Back on topic, mice generally make bad pets. Unless you want to feed those babies off and rebreed, it's really not worth your time. They smell pretty bad, are messy and use much less discrimination about biting than rats.
